NSV: Resisting Temptation

It's time to celebrate those Non-Scale Victories -- those weight-loss moments that occurred somewhere other than the scale.  Take some time each week to reflect on those small successes that add up to huge weight-loss results for you.  Share them here and let us celebrate with and be inspired by you.

On Monday this past week, our homeschool group had its monthly Mom's Night Out.  This is always one of my favorite nights of the month because it always involves good friends...and good food.  We went to Chili's, one of my very-most-favorite restaurants.  As I've mentioned before, I have a great, weight-loss-friendly meal choice at Chili's: the kids' grilled chicken, corn-on-the-cob with no butter, and black beans.  Yum.

I didn't even look at the menu; I just ordered my meal and water.  I did notice what others were eating, but I wasn't feeling tempted -- not even when the desserts showed up.  Not until I moved to the other end of the table to chat with a friend, after the meals were over.  There, sitting in front of her, were the remnants of my all-time favorite Chili's dessert: the chocolate chip paradise pie.  *sigh*

This particular friend is a very close friend.  She would not have thought much about me finishing off the unwanted portion of her dessert that she wasn't going to finish.  We've shared that particular dessert in the past.  She wouldn't have cared if I'd stuck my finger in the untouched, gooey caramel on the side of the plate nearest me.  I thought about doing both, but I did neither.  I drank my water, chatted, and enjoyed the company -- and stayed under my calorie budget for the day.

On a slightly related note, yesterday I picked up one of Brian's 25 lbs. free weights.  Wow, that thing was heavy!  That's just 0.8 lbs. more than I've lost.  It was amazing to realize exactly how much less weight I'm carrying around on my body.  It's no wonder I feel so much better!

What about you?  What non-scale victories did you enjoy this week?

  1. That's actually a great way to really get a grasp of how much weight you've lost. You are doing so awesome!

  2. You go, awesome one!

Let's see ... I skipped coffee tonight at the bookstore. And I wasn't even terribly tempted. What I really wanted (and got) was a big glass of ice water.

  3. It does help so much when you go to the restaurant prepared with a meal you can order that you feel good about eating. Good for you resisting the temptation to order what others were having...and even more - resisting the temptation to finish off your favorite dessert! That takes some willpower..and you got it! That is what has gotten you to 25+ pounds down already! :)

And the hand weight thing is a good way to get a grasp of how much weight it is. I'm done nearly 15 pounds, and we have some 10 pound weights at home. Picking them up isn't TOO heavy, but I can't do too many repetitions of exercises with the 10 pound weights, gotta use the 5...shows how wearing even just 10 pounds can be on the body.

    YOU'RE DOING FABULOUS!
